What every apartment includes
The kitchen is ready to go. Heat is covered. The rest of the space is yours to set up however you want.
Kitchen appliances
Refrigerator, stove with oven, and garbage disposal are included in every unit. You’ll need your own cookware, dishes, and small appliances—everything else is built in.
Wall heater
Every apartment has a wall heater for cooler months. Air conditioning is not built in, but San Diego’s climate is mild year-round. Portable AC units with window venting are permitted.
On-site laundry
On-site laundry is available 24/7 and paid through a mobile app. No need to haul laundry across the neighborhood or budget for a washer and dryer.
What you’ll need
Bed and bedding, seating, a table, and lighting are the essentials. If you work from home, add a desk and chair. Studios are ~400 sq ft, one-bedrooms ~550 sq ft—enough room for the basics without overbuying. See floor plans.
Gigabit internet available
Cox, Google Fiber, and AT&T all serve the building. You choose your provider and plan. Bring your own router or rent from the provider—service runs straight to the unit.
Move-in ready
Units are cleaned and ready between tenants. Coordinate furniture delivery for your move-in day and you can sleep in your own bed the first night—no waiting period, no staged move-in dates.
Rent furniture by the month
Several furniture rental companies serve San Diego—Cort, Rent-a-Center, and Aaron’s among them. Any of them will deliver and set up furniture in your apartment. We feature Cort (opens in new tab) because they offer a referral program that benefits you directly: a $50 Visa gift card after your rental begins.
With Cort, you can rent a full apartment package—bed, couch, dining set, the works—or individual pieces for what you’re missing. Plans run month-to-month, so the furniture commitment matches your lease commitment. If you’re on a month-to-month lease, the whole arrangement stays flexible.
Delivery and setup are included. When your lease ends or you’re ready to switch to your own furniture, they come pick everything up.

When renting furniture makes sense
Buying furniture is the right call when you’re settled. But if any of these sound familiar, renting might save you money and hassle.
You’re relocating from out of state
Shipping furniture across the country costs thousands. If you’re moving to San Diego and not sure you’re staying long-term, renting furniture lets you settle in without the moving bill. Pair it with a month-to-month lease and nothing ties you down.
You’re here temporarily
Travel assignments, contract work, military PCS—if your stay has an end date (or might), buying furniture is a sunk cost. Rent it, use it, return it when you leave. Month-to-month furniture plus a month-to-month lease—your entire setup flexes with your schedule. Military leasing details →
It’s your first apartment
You don’t own furniture yet and don’t want to buy a couch you’ll outgrow in a year. Renting gets you set up now. Buy the pieces you actually want later, on your own timeline.
You’re between permanent housing
Waiting on a home to close, renovating, or in transition. You need a real place to live—not a hotel—but you don’t need to furnish it forever. No minimum lease term means you can leave when you’re ready.
Prefer to buy?
If you’re staying and want to own your furniture, the options near Hillcrest are solid. IKEA Mission Valley is about 10 minutes by car—good for outfitting a studio or one-bedroom without overspending. Target, HomeGoods, and other home stores are in the same area along Friars Road.
Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp are active in San Diego. People leave the city often enough that quality secondhand furniture shows up regularly—especially around military PCS season and the end of university terms.
Moving from out of state? See our relocation guide. Not sure how long you’ll stay? Month-to-month leases are available from day one.

No. Apartments are unfurnished. Every unit includes a refrigerator, stove with oven, garbage disposal, and wall heater. You provide the furniture—by renting it, buying it, or bringing your own.
How does the Cort furniture rental work?
Cort delivers furniture to your apartment and sets it up. You choose a full package or individual pieces. Plans are month-to-month—when you’re done, they pick everything up. Rent furniture through Cort (opens in new tab). Disclosure: referral link—both you and Hillcrest Place receive a $50 Visa gift card.
Does Hillcrest Place charge extra for furnished apartments?
No. We don’t offer a furnished option or charge a furnished premium. Furniture rental is arranged directly between you and Cort (or any provider you prefer). Your apartment cost is the same regardless of how you furnish.
Is there air conditioning?
There’s no built-in AC. San Diego’s climate is mild year-round, and many residents don’t use air conditioning at all. If you want it, portable AC units with window venting are permitted—no installation needed.
